Asbestos - Are you managing?
A recent review carried out by The
Health and Safety Executive (HSE) found that between half
and three quarters of all duty holders had an awareness
of their duty to manage asbestos under the Control of
Asbestos at Work Regulations (2002). However, as little
as 25% of duty holders actually had management plans in
place to deal with the possible risks from asbestos.
This illustrates that in practice,
the majority of duty holders are undertaking asbestos
survey programmes to establish registers of asbestos materials
within their buildings. However, many duty holders have
not yet developed policies and procedures for dealing
with asbestos related issues.
